Orlan accouche d’elle-m’aime

One of the earliest works of the French performer ORLAN, working on the human body, the female body, to liberate it from the social, political, aesthetic and sexual limits.
I discovered her in the catalog on an exhibition about monsters in art. She has been interviewed in one of the chapters preceding the masterpiece catalog itself, about her work on the human body and her fight to establish a new self all by herself. It was particularly in parallel with another article of the book, where they were talking about the celosomian monsters (with the organs developing outside the body) and how it is terrifying for “normal” people who feel reassured when their inner self, both physically and psychically, is hidden into the limits of the human body, allowing them to keep pretending their normality instead to assuming, revendicating their individuality.
